DEVELOPMENT PROJECT FOR THE YEAR 2011
GIRL’S HOSTEL AND DINING HALL.
Kauwi secondary school was started in2005 as a day school. the population then for the entire school averaged 20 students per class. today the school has grown and the classes have an averrage of 50 students with some going up to 60 students. The school to date is a double streamed school with 380 students, 14 teachers and 10 support staff. the number of girls in the school equalls that of boys and in some classes is more than that of boys. the succes of the school has continued to attract more girls from fur flang locations in the district. Even though we insist that students should not stay at the market-kabati some girls have found themselves renting rooms at the market so as to be near the school. these girls either living alone or with relatives at the market have became easy pray to irresposible men working or doing bussines at the market. Out of every four cases of girls pregnancy reported in the school three will likely be of the girls putting at the market.
When the school began 7 years ago Kabati market was a locational headquaters then. Today the market has grown tremedously to be the Headquartes of Kitui west district and with the tarmarking of theNairobi-Kitui road alot o bussinesses and people have made the town their home and then the urban problems and their hiden momentum. Similarly the girls travelling for a long distance home have found themselves easy pray to the men from the market and hence the very high dropout rates and poor performance noted among the girls.
When the parents met during annual parrents day they deliberated over this issue and decided that their next years development project be a Girls hostel and a dining hall. This was further endorsed by a BOG meeting. The cost of the two projects was calculated to be 3.9 Million. Each parent agreed to pay Ksh.2000 per student to start this project. This was to net Ksh.600,000.00. the rest of the money, it was agreed will to come from a fund raisser slated for this december the 2nd 2011
The funds needed for this project is large and therefore we are appealing to all our friends and wellwishers to support this ambitious project by way of donations, prayers and morale
